With Motown on the turntable this week for “American Idol,” and no lip-syncing going on, anticipation was riding high. What better music to please the masses than America’s greatest sound. And Smokey Robinson was looking especially tight, in the face that is. [...] Tuesday was a twang-filled night of Grand Ole Opry, seeing Randy Travis and his freakishly large head guiding the top eleven on training horses and mixing up American classics. This week actually had quite a few applause-worthy performances from the unlikely Kris Allen and Annop Desai… [...] “American Idol” dropped a bomb. What the hell was up with the new judge introductions? It felt like I was watching a Miss America pageant and Ryan Seacrest was crowned the winner as he walked down the stage. Even he couldn’t help but laugh at such ridiculousness… [...] Despite the craptastic dialogue, I catch myself returning to “Heroes” every week. I blame my nerdy side, plus, it started out with such potential. This week found the puppet master returning only to disappear towards the episode’s end. Shame, because he seems to be the most intriguing character left on the show, next to Sylar. Sort of a child-molesting carny type that takes to Tweeting… [...] Short but sweet, “The Simpsons” never fails to stay relevant while maintaining a snarky sensibility. Having grown up on this Fox hit, it’s no wonder that I remain a loyal viewer all these years later, despite its boring foray into feature films. [...] With a “Harry and the Hendersons” watch party at Jack’s apartment, “30 Rock” joined the ranks of TV’s all-time great comedies. [...] “American Idol” producers obviously corralled this season’s ugliest ducklings for last so as to keep viewers from tuning out too soon.
